The Indianapolis 500 is one of motorsport’s greatest events and has largely been won by homegrown talents, or at least competitors from the regular Indycar series, but Formula 1 does have its place in Indy 500 history. In particular, an F1 invasion in the 1960s changed American single-seater racing forever.
